The Sifaka lemur is only found on the island of Madagascar, and with deforestation shrinking their habitat, the species is on the verge of extinction. Just like East Africa's pancake tortoise, whose flat, soft shell helps it hide from predators, but not poachers. They're among the 100 critically endangered animals that the celebrity-funded Phoenix Species Project wants to save. Christiane St-Pierre is managing director of the Bezos Earth Fund, which is contributing $100 million. Leonardo DiCaprio's Rewild organization is matching the donation. The money for the program is part of a broader commitment from Bezos to spend $10 billion on climate change by 2030.
